R.I.P. Meat Loaf (1947- 2022)

Meat Loaf, the Grammy winner, who pulverized sales records with his 1977 debut album Bat Out Of Hell, and who starred in films like The Rocky Horror Picture Show and Fight Club, has died. A cause of death has not been released.

Despite being in bands from the age of 20 (already using his stage name "Meat Loaf Soul"), Meat Loaf's first real success in musical theater saw him step into the musical's Broadway cast and a meeting with Composer and songwriter Jim Steinman, who would continue to perform in bands for the next decade.

Steinman found Meat Loaf, a pair of collaborators who were both musically fixated on many of the same topics, particularly "rock and roll" that pulled as much from showtunes as it did more traditional sounds. Meat Loaf found Steinman, a voice that could power the ascendant melodies that had been kicking around in his head. Shortly after meeting, they had begun working on the songs that, in the future, would become "Bat Out Of Hell."
